SunWorks charge controllers for caravans.

A SunWorks charge controller will protect your battery from overcharging by the solar panel. It will also maximise the charge stored each day. We have several charge controllers to choose from. To help you select the correct charge controller for your solar panel, please read the following guide. All our charge controllers carry the SunWorks Five Year Green Guarantee.

All SunWorks charge controllers are designed to prevent battery damage from overcharging. Careful charging will prolong the life of your battery. Whichever charge controller you choose, rest assured that your battery is being well looked after.

How to choose a charge controller.

If you are interested to know how your solar panel is performing, choose a controller with an LCD display. These controllers are mounted within view so you can keep an eye on the solar panel current and your battery voltage level. The SB1C and SB2C both have LCD displays and are available in black or light grey to suit the interior of your caravan.

Charge controllers without LCD displays provide exactly the same battery protection and charge optimisation. They are less expensive and are mounted next to the battery, out of sight. The SB0 is an 8 amp charge controller and is suitable for solar panels of up to 125 watts.

The SB1Z is an 11 amp controller, suitable for solar panels of up to 170 watts. The SB1Z can also be supplied with a remote LCD display unit (also available in black or grey). This remote display can be mounted anywhere within the caravan and is connected to the controller via a very thin cable (supplied).

What size of charge controller should I choose for my caravan?

Whichever charge controller you choose, make sure that the charge controller rating (given in watts) is at least 10% higher than the solar panel rating. So a 100 watt solar panel will need a charge controller with a rating of at least 110 watts e.g. the SunWorks SB1C (170 watts).

If you think that you might want to add additional solar panels in the future, make sure you select a larger charge controller. So if you think you might want to add another 100 watt solar panel, choose a charge controller rated at at least 220 watts e.g. SunWorks SB2C (240 watts).

Connection to a charge controller is easy. Just two wires to the solar panel, and two wires to the battery (via a fuse).

At SunWorks we have been designing and building solar panel charge controllers since 2002. All SunWorks solar charge controllers are built to the highest standards, in-house, to our own exacting specifications.
