What do the kits contain?

Our semi-flexible solar panel kits provide the main items required to install an efficient solar panel system. Each kit contains one or more solar panels, the appropriate SunWorks LCD charge controller, and the correct cables with connectors ready fitted. These kits are the one-stop way to a secure and efficient solar panel installation. Also in the kits are full instructions with  illustrations, and our recommendations for a professional installation.

Which type of kit is best for my needs?

You can use a semi-flexible solar panel or a standard rigid framed solar panel on your narrowboat.

Semi-flexible solar panels are attached directly to the deck of the boat. They have the advantage of being very thin and so are less visible than rigid framed solar panels. The SunWorks FLEX kits shown on this page contain this type of solar panel.

What size of solar panel do I need?

Trickle charging of your battery can usually be achieved using a 50 watt solar panel kit.

If you want to provide some surplus energy we advise fitting a 100 watt panel kit. This will give you additional power in the summer months and more reliable charging during the winter.

If you are interested in becoming independent of the mains hook-up you should consider fitting a 200 watt solar panel kit.

Can I charge both batteries?

Choose a single battery UNO kit if you just want to charge your engine battery or your leisure battery. Or select a DUO kit if you want to charge both your engine battery and your leisure battery.

Do I need anything else?

Each installation is different. Therefore our kits contain the essential electrical items, carefully matched to work together. You may also need:

Sikaflex adhesive. For fixing the solar panel to the deck. One tube needed for each panel.

Watertight deck gland. Takes the cable securely through the deck of your boat.

Fused battery harness. Makes the connection to your battery safe and easy.
